In this work, there is a more complex research: Netti gives a more elaborate spatial representation, developed on different planes, abandoning the diagonal perspective. Striking similarity with some works by Marco De Gregorio, if you think in particular about View of Casacalenda at the Museum of Capodimonte. Netti’s painting is set on the churchyard of the church of the Holy Crucifix, formerly San Rocco, in Santèramo, in an elevated position compared to the town, thus offering a view on the theory of houses bordering the two streets leading to the church. Both the square in front of the church and the urban-architectural structure of this Santèramo’s corner have remained almost unchanged since the time of Netti. He painted the canvas after his return from Paris and probably in the first half of the Seventies, when the artist rediscovered his native places, educated to painting en plein air. In addition, the use of sketch painting, which translates in some points into an unfinished, as a stylistic means, contributes to the particular charm of the work that leads back to those years.
