Study for Feast in Grez, 1869
Pencil on paper, cm 17x23,1
Bari, private collection
It is the study of Feast in Grez (1869-1870) and is particularly interesting because it shows a working method that Netti uses in a certain period. The artist often tends, until about the middle of the seventies, to first elaborate the architectural frame and adds only later, in a defined environment, the motif of the figures. The design corresponds almost completely to the architectural frame of the final painting: in fact, there are no cubic-shaped houses in the background, which then give a certain modernity to the painting. The few figures on the street are quite occasional and missing any allusion to the feast.
