It is a finely elaborated study, of After the ball (1872). The work’s manufacture is close to the final editing of the painting, although the latter appears with a more central cut: the figures fill the entire surface, throwing the scene forward. In the study it seems as if a distant observer is looking at the scene from the right, accentuating a depth already well rendered, for the typical design of the French heritage of houses composed diagonally.
