Most likely, this is a study for La Siesta. It is performed with an open and quick brush stroke. The low bed and the pose of the young woman are identical to those of the final painting. Even if the protagonists’ tense expression of this studio, with her eyes almost open, fixed in a point of the floor, is very far from that, instead, relaxed of the young woman in the final version of the painting, which therefore conveys totally different sensations of those of La Siesta, whose protagonist, though dormant, is characterized by a slight eroticism.
