Study for In the Court of Assize, 1882
Pencil on paper, cm 14x10,5
Bari, private collection
This is the study of the same year’s work, In Corte d’Assise. In this case are represented only two of the protagonists of the painting, one of which is equipped with theater binoculars, spectators of a judicial scene: the Fadda Process, of 1879.
The structure of the drawing, which at certain points is denser and with close strokes, focuses particularly on the appearance of the two women and on the accessory attributes: the hat, the gloves of the hands that hold the binoculars, as to underline its morbid curiosity.
