The training trips of the painter and art critic, Francesco Netti

An appointment with the past to build the future

If Santeramo were to be described through a character, it would certainly be Francesco Netti. Santermano artist, painter and scholar who opened a door between our country and the whole world through his works full of meaning and expressive beauty. His training trips will be discussed at the conference organized by the Netti association and Arci Bari, under the patronage of the municipality of Santeramo in Colle, on Saturday 19 November at 18.00 at the municipal library "G.Colonna" in Piazza Di Vagno.

A meeting that will see the intervention of important speakers able to accompany the participants on a journey through the formative stages of Netti. The art historian, Christine Farese Sparken, former professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Bari and author of numerous essays and books concerning the world of painting and sculpture in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, will report on the French stay of Francesco Netti, from the discovery of en plein air painting to his civil commitment during the Franco-Prussian war.

Next to her, Sara Cenatiempo, a young art historian engaged in research with particular attention to the artistic production of the South during the period of commitment of the artist from San Terma, will speak of the "Visions of the East: Francesco Netti, between truth and imagination". The artist Francesco Arena will also be present with "Almost half a world tour" who will report on the meaning of travel for the contemporary artist and for him in particular.

Arena, a prominent element of the Conceptual Art artistic movement, for the realization of his works he often moves along two tracks - that of collective history, in particular national, and that of personal history - which form two lines that touch, overlap , they cross.

A combination of intense representations of history and art for the evening dedicated to the Santermano painter which will be opened by greetings from the mayor, Vincenzo Casone, the councilor for culture, Gabriele Cecca, the president of the association Francesco Netti, Marco Canzio and also by an ARCI representative for the presentation of the ARCI project "Street art campaign on the way". An appointment that turns the spotlight on Francesco Netti to make known a different aspect of his journey, told in many voices, a bridge with the past to build the future.
